Sabino Canyon FitKidz One Mile Classic – Race Recap

We were super excited to get the kids back to racing at the original, kids only event, the Sabino Canyon FitKidz One Mile Classic. We had a beautiful morning out at majestic Sabino Canyon last Saturday on National Public Lands Day where everyone’s entry into Sabino was free. Of course, the kids raced for free thanks to our amazing sponsors and donors!

Huge thanks to our past FitKidz program sponsors including Tucson Medical Center, Tucson Orthopedic Institute, Tucson Orthopedic Medical Foundation, Tucson Conquistadores, Albertsons / Safeway, Champ Youth, Each Brain Matters, Vantage West CU, Tile Outlet, My Gym Children’s Fitness Center, Eegees and Don Cox with Farmers Insurance.

Special thanks also to RoadRunnerRaceTiming, the Forest Service, the Volunteer Naturalists, the SAR FitKidz Action Committee led by Jeri Baker, and an amazing group of race volunteers that included: Kelly Mack, Brian Leroy, Janet Holland, Caroline Gardiner, Kris Fitzharris, Jeri Baker, Lucas Tyler,  Dave Dixon, Christine Outridge, Lee Ann Kalaba, Melanie Romo, Kirstin Berson.

We would also like to thank our friends with the Jewish Community Center (JCC) who were there to support the event and give out some free goodies to everyone. In fact, the JCC even had a raffle for some awesome prizes and the winners (who will be contacted directly by the JCC) were:

Stephanie Pantaleo- 3-month membership

Mike Leingang- 1 month membership

Katie Ruhl- 1 month membership

Ben Kanspedos- 1 month membership

Patricia Moore- 1 month membership

Congratulations to all of the winners!

Many thanks as well to the GoatOGRAPHER for the awesome race photos. Search for the GoatOGRAPHER (Mr. Kerry Whelan) on Facebook to see the images and request copies.

As for the race itself, the kids had great fun, as always. There were lots of smiling faces and tired legs at the finish line greeted by Fitz, the FitKidz Mascot! The top 3 girls were Matilda Knotts (2nd overall finisher!), Maribel Fimbres and Isabelle Lafforge. The top 3 boys were Julian Paredes, Hayden Talattof, and Aden Greenberg.

We hope to see all of you again soon at another FitKidz event!

Sincerely,

Steve Outridge
