Description
Dave’s Run for ALS is a super-fun, family event for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities.
DAVE'S DOUBLE IS BACK THIS YEAR BY POPULAR DEMAND (run both the 8K and the 5K and win a special prize)!!
Dave's Run For ALS is named for the late David Filer who was an avid runner, active SAR member, and local business owner. David was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, in the summer of 2000. Currently there is no cure for this fatal disease. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go specifically for ALS research, via the Jim Himelic foundation. Race distances are 8K, 5K FitKidz Mile and Dave's Double (run both the 8K & 5K the same morning! Awards in the 8K and 5K in 5 year age groups, with a special prize for those completing Dave's Double. Please note that only the 8K is a part of the Running Shop SAR Grand Prix series.

Teams
We give a cool Eegees party prize to the largest team based on the number of registrants for that team.
1. Select a captain
2. Have the captain register for Dave's Run for ALS online (for the 8K, 5K or Dave's Double) and create a team, designating themselves as a captain.
3. Have the captain share the team name with all of those interested in being on that team.
4. When folks register (for the 8K, 5K or Dave's Double), have them look for and select the team that they want to join.
5. We will reach out to the captain after the race to arrange for getting them the Eegees party gift certificate valued at $150!
That's it, it's super easy and fun!

Sunday, Nov 1, 2026 at event site from 6:15 AM until 15 minutes prior to each event start time
* Please bring cash or check for registration and packet pickup on race morning registration
* Please note that packet pickup and race morning registrants for the 8K, 5K or Dave's Double will not immediately receive a t-shirt. You will be asked to check on shirt availability after the race is finished and may pick one up while supplies last.

Please park in the west side of the parking area for Curtis Park, and not on the east side parking area in front of the Sporting Chance building.
Awards
In the 8K and 5K for both male and female: Top 3 overall, top masters, top 3 in 5-year age groups up to 80+. Top 3 non-binary finishers will also receive an award.
Beneficiaries
A portion of the proceeds from the event will go specifically for ALS research, via the Jim Himelic Foundation. The Jim Himelic Foundation is a local organization providing research funds to the U of A for the fight again ALS, for which there is currently no cure.
